The word of the day for December 25, 2007 is “abundance” — noun 1 : an ample quantity : profusion. 2 : affluence, wealth. 3 : relative degree of plentifulness <low abundances of uranium and thorium — H. C. Urey>.
Yesterday, we had a lovely drive up and back to my sister’s. At my sister’s, we had a lovely potato soup for lunch with fork salad. (Apparently, a fork fell into the gelatin during the making and remained undiscovered until the salad was on the table. This occasioned a few jokes about fortune cakes with rings, etc. and starters for stone soup.) We also exchanged gifts. My sister gave everyone calendars. That’s usually our job, but this year we gave music boxes that play Christmas carols.
It was so nice to get what I wanted for Christmas. The new computer probably was not necessary, but the old one isn’t talking to the internet and it refuses to do a search. The new one is totally mobile so I’m writing this while watching As Time Goes By, the series which was Lloyd’s present from me. He is a great fan of Dame Judy Dench, whom he likens to me. (What a sweetheart.)
The quote of the day is from Charlie Chaplin (1889–1977), British comic actor, filmmaker. Charles Chaplin. Jewish barber (Charles Chaplin), The Great Dictator, posing as Hynkel (1940):
Machinery that gives us abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical, our cleverness hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery, we need humanity. More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent, and all will be lost.

Yesterday, I forgot the digital and had to get a one-shot, so we’ll have to wait until I get them developed. The photos above are from this morning.

You seem to have had an 'abundance' of snow in your neck of the woods Jan.
More than your fair share.. considering we ONLY had rain for Christmas Day! Lol!
Love your starry socks and your laptop. Now you will have no excuse to keep in touch. I have come down into the cellar onto my old one and its so slow I feel as though I need to crank it up with a foot up its backside...hahahaha!
It's taken me almost ten minutes to 'light it up' and get it cracking on AOL. Our Samantha wants to access her e-mail so that's why I am on today as the children are still enjoying their presents upstairs.
Iwill pop some photos on later on this week as they are here until Friday.
Meanwhile tell Lloyde his Day Clock is about the size I need for a writst watch on my hand these days. I am getting myopic.
Enjoy the rest of your Christmas and waht a fabulous truthful and honest quote from Charlie Chaplin yuo gave us today. It is so true.
Hugs

I love Judi Dench and that series too. xx
Jan,
So glad that you and your's had a lovely Christmas. We spent the day at my daughter Donna and her husband Kevin's home in Tucson and the gifts were more than abundant! My 4 year old grandson got up and looked at the gigantic pile with sleep still in his eyes and looked at his daddy and said, "Santa didn't come." To which Kevin sat speechless looking at the pile and said "what do you mean Santa didn't come?" With palms upturned and the innocence that only a 4 year old can muster he said,"No snow!" To him Santa can only fly his sled with snow. A difficult feat in Arizona! LOL..
A great day was had by all and today I just dropped my sister in law off at the airport for her return to New York.
In 2 weeks the other girl child and her husband and children will be here from Ohio so Christmas will be going on for us much longer than the usual 12 days!
Happy New Year to all!
