                             — WINTER SUNSET —

AOL Community Photo Challenge gives us a chance to show off our photos in a weekly contest. I found this site in Jeannette's Jottings. I thought I might like to enter this sunset taken across the Arkansas River in Wichita, KS, USA on Dec. 28, 2005. We had fed the Canadian geese that winter over and were on our way home.

Our quote for the day is from Vladimir Nabokov (1899–1977), Russian-born U.S. novelist, poet. Invitation to a Beheading, foreword (1959):

If someday I make a dictionary of definitions wanting single words to head
them, a cherished entry will be “To abridge, expand, or otherwise alter or
cause to be altered for the sake of belated improvement, one’s own writings
     in translation.”

HI Jan that is a lovely sunset. you should certainly enter that in the comp.  though I think it says it has to be a black and white this week.  I am not sure how to enter but if I discover how I will have a go sometimes as well.  I love photography, actually today I took the camera with me to take a photographs of the floods but as usual I am a day late!! as we have not had the rain now for 36 hours the main flooding has subsided..thank goodness I suppose.!!!but I took some of the bye brook in full spate and of a lovely clump of snowdrops on the roadside.  Love for now Sybil x

That's a spectacular sunset Jan!
How calm the waters and how clear the mirrored reflections.
Perfect for a photo competition.

Well captured!  A wonderful entry today.

This photo shows why I love Kansas.  The beauty is stunning, but one has to be aware of it because it is subtle...unlike mountains, ocean, forests, etc.  Anyone can be awed by those wonders!

Thank you for sharing this picture with us.

Great entry.  Loved your Journal also.  It was added to my "First-things-to-do-in-the-morning" List.  After all these years, I may finally actually learn something that is useful.  Cheers, Clyde
